Miniature Ikebana Arrangements
One of the highlights of our annual Ikebana Exhibition at the Botanical Gardens is the fun display of miniature ikebana arrangements—affectionately called minis. Though small in scale, each piece is a true work of ikebana, created according to the same artistic principles and school traditions that guide full-sized designs.
A miniature ikebana is not simply a tiny vase with tiny flowers; it is a fully realized composition where proportion, balance, line, and negative space are thoughtfully expressed in a format no larger than 5.5″ × 8.5″. Because of their intimate size, minis invite viewers to slow down and enjoy delicate details that might be overlooked in larger works. At the exhibition, visitors often linger over the mini gallery, captivated by the creativity, charm, and precision each designer brings to these small but expressive arrangements.
